I recently read a good article on attitude vs aptitude ( or IQ ) : https://www.forbes.com/sites/travisbradberry/2016/01/19/why-attitude-is-more-important-than-iq/#3faee3a33bd0 and except the suggestion of Bruce to die rather than stop , the article resonates with me.
We are all striving hard to achieve our goals and all of us want to be successful in each and everything we do. Many of us are lucky to get away with little hurdles and for the rest, life's a bitch.
But what sets people apart is, how they react to such setbacks. It is perfectly normal to get worked up or stressed out but it takes discipline to stay grounded and focused on what can be done rather than how difficult the situation is.
Have had the misfortune of dealing with verbally abusive behavior in the past and negative mindsets - and it has far reaching effects on everyone. And after elephants, humans have the second best memory - people do remember. I have a list of a few snobbish people I have worked with in the past that I would not work for/with them again even if they are the last employers left on the planet ( theoretically you don't need to work then ).
Biologically, significant volume of negative thoughts lead to increased anxiety levels ( adrenal glands pump out toxic levels of hormones , the blood pressure rises, the brain thinks you are in a dire situation so it shuts down non primary functions of the body ) and the negative actions like aggression and violence are turned on at full capacity ( because the body gets into a defensive mode ). Now imagine this continuing over a period of time, the body and mind get used to it and these qualities then become a part of your personality and day to day life.
To lend a more scientific bend to the theory, here's what a branch of metaphysics call Noetic science has to say :
Noetic science talks about the power of human thoughts affecting the real world. Our normal belief about thought is that it is simply a logical process. According to noetic theory, thoughts have weights. Every material on earth are affected by gravitational force, which is invisible and yet to be properly explained by the physicists.Though we do not see gravitational field, it does not mean that it is a fictional field.Noetic science claims that our thoughts are also attracted by gravitational field to some degreee, which may not be the way materials are affected by gravitation.
So if thoughts have weights and force, it means they are attracted to and can be repelled by other thoughts. So when our philosophers said there is power in positive thinking or collective thoughts generate momentum, it can be related to the attraction of forces - good attracts good and likewise.
There are lots of self help books and coaches to train one on this but it will be in vain till a person willingly wants to change ( for the better ) and makes attempts to replace negativity with positivity - be it shunning out negative people or one's own negative thoughts or being surrounded by people who are genuinely good at heart.
Its all in the mind , and as aptly said, our attitude determines our altitude in life !!
