We both love our apartment immensely which is the reason we keep renewing our lease even though we know we have been paying way too high rent . The view is unparalleled to any other apartment we have been to . But another factor has been the wonderful birds that come to our bird feeder every day . My husband adores them , diligently tries to keep the feeder full so his little buddies are never out of food . Their variety , chirps , occasional fights makes our deck a very lively place . Right from bright cardinals to sweet chickadees have all been part of our deck bird community . Our bird feeder is more than two years old and still an 'all you can eat' buffet open to all .
What we considered a seemingly small incident changed it all . We were out of town for a couple of days and were out of bird food too . It took us a week , probably more to get the bird food . The feeder is back to business but sadly the birds aren't . For almost two days , we didn't have any visitors on our deck . Even now , very few that come over , sit and gaze around for a long time before deciding to try the food . And they hardly eat . Its the very same food which they used to devour in a couple of days , but they seem to have lost trust , forgotten the past or probably moved on and found other sources .
I can very well draw a parallel to something I have been feeling for quite some time . Its so difficult to maintain friendships and relationships . And am faced with the same irony - out of sight is out of mind . I have had very few friends and now there are only acquaintances left . As long as we were meeting regularly , sharing thoughts or moments of life together - life was chirpy and happening . Nowadays everyone seems to be busy in their own life or unwillingly to spend quality time together and as the birds, we all have moved on .
I have finally found solace in a place I'd never thought - my local library . Books are my best friends now - always there when I need them , talk in volumes and have no additional baggage attached to them .
